Community guidelines
RetreatAdvisors works because people trust what they read here. These guidelines protect that trust. They're short, so please read them.
1. Share what you actually know
- Answer from your own experience where you can, and say so. Only tick “Been there” or write a review if you personally stayed at that retreat.
- If you're passing on something you read or heard, say where it came from.
- Specifics help most: when you went, how long, what it cost, what surprised you.
2. Reviews must be honest and unpaid
- Never review a retreat you work for, own, represent, or have a family or business tie to.
- Never accept money, discounts, free stays or gifts in exchange for a review, and never offer them.
- Retreats may not ask guests to post only positive reviews, and may not post reviews of competitors.
- We don't remove reviews because they're negative. We remove them if they break these rules.
3. Be kind, even when you disagree
- Criticise experiences, not people. No insults, harassment, hate speech, or threats.
- Respect that people seek retreats for very different reasons: spiritual, medical, or simply to rest.
- Don't mock beliefs, traditions or teachers. Honest critique is fine; contempt isn't.
4. No hidden selling
- Retreat owners, staff and agents are welcome, but must say who they are when they post.
- No spam, affiliate links, referral codes or copy-pasted promotions.
5. Health and safety
- Nothing here is medical advice. Treatments like Panchakarma or long fasts can be risky with some conditions, so encourage people to consult a doctor.
- Don't share anyone's private information, including other guests' names, photos or health details.
- If someone describes a safety problem at a retreat (abuse, assault, exploitation), take it seriously and point them to local authorities. You can also report it to us.
How moderation works
Anyone signed in can report a post. Our moderators review reports. A post reported by several members is hidden automatically until it's reviewed, and a report of an unsafe health claim from one trusted member (150+ karma) is enough to hide it while we check, because wrong medical advice can hurt someone before we get to it. Breaking these guidelines can lead to removal of content and, for serious or repeated breaches, a ban.
